Oldest bar in NOLA, built 1722-1732 by Nicolas Touze. Disputed but said to be the oldest structure to be used as a bar in the United States. It is worth a visit. I love the fact that they have been able to maintain the building, as much as they can. It is worth looking up the story about Pirate Laffite.
What an absolute vibe! Loved the aesthetic and set up for the bar which was like a straight up dive bar. We got the famous purple drank and a sex on the beach. We were convinced by someone there to get the drunken cherries and they did NOT disappoint. Yall need to check this place out if you’re in NOLA.

A most wonderful place to hang out! I tried the hurricane, and of course, the purple drank! I was told of this place by my late husband and made it my mission to come here and bring some of his ashes to New Orleans with me. This is where he wanted to be! There was music at all times, sometimes live, sometimes not. The staff and owners are amazing people! They made my visit just perfect!
Very unique and cool to see one of the oldest buildings in NOLA. Tried the purple drank. It tasted delicious - like grape cool aide. Definitely worth a try!
I do not like grape flavored items but the purple drink is different. It is tradition to get a purple drink each time visiting New Orleans. It is an adult slushy. The blacksmith bar is full of history. At night there is usually someone playing the piano and everyone sings along to the music. If you are ever in New Orleans you should definitely check it out whether you try the purple drink or not.
The history is amazing here! The bar itself is the oldest bar in the US and we got to step foot inside it and order the purple drank. So grateful for such an awesome experience! And met some amazing locals that told us more about this bar and its history! Thank you
This is another one of those places Ive been coming to since the late 90s. The setting here is always different than anywhere else in the Quarter, especially when they got someone playing the piano. Its far enough down Bourbon to not be inundated with people most of the time, after the sun goes down, its all hands on deck. The barkeeps here have always been attentive, and can pur a drink with the best of them. Tip your servers, and tip them often!
